5Super tent - great price
By Jack E. Biederman
This is my first aluminum tent frame. I couldn't wait and put the tent together so I found an unused office at work and set it up in there. The tent comes with no instructions. after a less than 10 minutes of trial and error I was able to set it up. Tip: set up the poles that go through the sleeves first. Those poles go in the holes at the end of the seam that extends from the sleeve. It looks wierd, but do it anyway. The third pole becomes obvious where it goes. The aluminum poles are very nice, shockcorded and assemble easily. The three poles are all the same length and are interchangeable. Once the poles are in place, the tent is free standing, but the tub floor of the tent appears to be a bit tweaked. Perhaps staking the tent to the ground will help it lay out better. The stakes that come with it are pretty lame and will go straight to the recycling bin.I am 6'1 200 pounds. This is the first tent I have been in that felt roomy. I can lay down lengthwise and have at least 6 inches of room at both my feet and head. Nice. In addition, there is enough headroom to easily sit up inside this tent. More headroom means that the tent will be more vulnerable to high winds, so take precautions. After years of canvas military tents, this is like heaven. There are quick release clips on the pole tabs that lock into the rainfly. Seems to be a reasonably well thought-out tent. From the images I saw online, I thought it was a "clip" type tent on a freestanding frame, but it has two poles that run through two sleeves each, and everything else clips from tent to the various poles. The third pole gives the tent its semi-rectangular floorplan, and is connected to the tent entirely by clips. The walls of the tent are about 50% mesh, in a mixed pattern, some low in the tent walls, some high. When unzipped, the door swings to the side, it does not lay on the ground where it must be avoided when passing through. Nice touch. The Door zipper pulls on the inside of the tent are glow in the dark. A mesh tent loft is included, but I did not set it up. The poles have only a single curve that follows the natural single curve of the tent. The poles are not twisted into unnatural shapes. The floor feels a bit thin, but I am willing to make that tradeoff for lighter weight. The tent/fly and poles weigh in at 6.01 pounds with the tent bag and the poles bag. I did not include the stakes since I will replace them anyway. The tent disassembled and was packed up in less than 10 minutes (there were no stakes to pull out). Tents never seem to fold up as tightly as they come from the factory, but this tent was easy to fold up and with my sloppy roll-up, it still fit comfortably in the factory tent bag and measured 6x22 (inches).I looked at a lot (20+) of tents in a wide range of prices up to $900. There are really very few that can compete with this tent for design and price. After it is used a few times, the hidden quality of the tent will reveal itself. For now, I am satisfied with my choice. From the specifications alone, this tent should sell for a lot more money.I plan to use this as a two-person tent with room to store all gear in side the tent. I am going to put this tent in my Bug-Out Backpack. At 6 pounds, it is one of the lightest, roomiest, structurally sound tents I have researched. This tent is *perfect* for me. If I had one improvement to suggest, I would suggest thicker aluminum poles, but the ones included in the tent seem fine for 99% of what Mother Nature can throw at me.I am getting a nice set of stakes for when I set it up outside. MSR Ground Hog Stake KitThis tent has the "Jack Seal of Approval".Buy this tent while you can. It is a steal.

4Quirky, but decent.

Just used this tent on a 14 day camping trip at campsites around Yakima, WA. The climate was dry and between 80 and 100 degrees, mostly wooded areas.Pros:- Aluminum poles. Wow, this was my first time with poles of this kind, they are LIGHT, and they're orange! They "snapped" together on their own when unfolding. I was afraid that they were going to break because of how light they were, but it never happened. This 3 pole design is interesting, and works well.- Rainfly. another wow. This rainfly rocks. We had a real downpour on the third day, this rainfly was solid, no leaks or instability with it. The rainfly also adds 2 small vestibules which are very useful for leaving shoes and some other things outside the 2 doors and keeping them dry. The rainfly connects to 4 of the tent stake areas with plastic clasps, as well as velcro loops to the tent poles. There are another 4 points to stake for the 2 vestibule areas. You also have the option of using 4 guylines! I did not use the guylines at all during my stay. I can imagine that this rainfly will stand up to very harsh winds when using the guylines.- Ventilation, mesh, and night views. When not using the rainfly, the ventilation is plentiful. The mesh is VERY fine, even the tiny bugs that usually get through regular mesh on other tents had no chance getting through this one. The mesh on top allows for viewing the night sky, which I enjoyed several times.- Cargo net and pockets. This tent has the best overhead cargo net I've used, and it even follows the design/theme of the tent (which caused me just a bit of confusion when first putting it up). There are 4 pockets (that I recall), 2 are the "hanging" type of pockets on opposite corners of the tent close to the base, the other 2 are pretty big and sewn into the walls to the left of the doors inside.- Condensation did not seem to be an issue because of the combination of the ventilation and rainfly, which is pretty ingenious.- Floor. The floor material appears to be good quality and waterproof, even though it's thin. During the first downpour, water would come through the corner seams, but it never came through the floor, and I could tell that there was plenty of water underneath. Using a tarp under this thin floor material is a must to prevent punctures.Cons:- The aluminum stakes. Really? What's the point of including these... I bent 3 the first time!! Throw them away. I already read about these stakes though, and was prepared with stronger ones.- No directions came with my tent, I set up the first 2 poles the wrong way (completely in parallel), but immediately noticed it was not right, because of the pattern on the tent. Directions would have prevented this, I could have overstretched some seams if I left it the way I first did it. *The pictures on this page associated with the tent were not present when I purchased it, these pictures should be all you need to set up the tent now.- Base measurements aren't "true." bottom edges of 4 sides of the tent "bow" up, making it a semi-tub base when you try to even the floor out, this reduces some floor space.Quirks/complaints:- The shape of the base is unusual and makes it a hassle to set up the tarp underneath so that no part would be sticking out.- (!) The floor corner seams. The seams aren't sealed (which is normal), but they were very "open" in the stake corners, the threading was pulling on the fabric enough that there were actual small holes I could see through. I did not notice this until the downpour, when water began seeping in at a significant rate, mainly from these holes. I had to take off my shirt and use it to soak up the water as it was coming in. After this, I went and bought a tube of E6000 adhesive (best tent seam sealer) and applied a double coat all around the base seams and slept on my truck bed for one night (24+ hour curing process). Afterwards, we had 1 more downpour the 2nd week, nothing came through the base.- Both doors have a bulge to them (not 100% measured/aligned when sewn together), the problem this gives me is that I need to use both of my hands to open the doors completely: one hand to pull away the fabric to flatten the bulge while the other hand zips it open. With one hand, I get stuck at the bulge, this is annoying because I usually am carrying stuff in one hand. You can see this exact issue in the pictures, I wonder if they're all done this same way.- Rainfly. Okay, so the rainfly barely covers the whole tent, they could have made the rainfly a bit bigger, 6 more inches on each side and rain wouldn't be touching the base of the tent.- The 2 hanging pockets, why are they touching the floor? They're too low.- There's no way I would put 3 people in this tent, 2 is the most.- I am 6'4" and just fit within the tent by mere inches (considering the sloping walls). I had expected more room based on the dimensions given (100 inches, come on!), however, I am satisfied with what it is.At first, I was frustrated with a few things about this tent, but after working it out... I started to like it, this is the kind of tent that I'll be taking care of for a long time, and it's going to serve me well. It is quality, with quirks, :-)

Just used this tent for the first time over the weekend. The rainfly definitely kept the dew out, and after struggling to figure how to set it up the first time in my front yard, I had an easy time of it the second time around. The tent with rainfly on doesn't get very good airflow, I wish the doors were the type that could unzip to just a vent, as they are you have to open them completely in order to get very good airflow. All in all, it gets the job done. Like others have said, the stakes are really flimsy, I bent two just on the first use.
