Product Description

The Fly Creek UL 3 is a three season, free standing, ultralight backpacking tent. It features a DAC Featherlite NSL pole system with press fit connectors and lightweight hubs - featuring eco-friendly anodizing. All DAC poles are made from TH72M aluminum: the latest technology in lightweight tent poles featuring improved durability. Fly is ultralight silicone treated nylon rip-stop with a 1200mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Floor is ultralight silicone treated nylon rip-stop with a 1200mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Tent body is ultralight breathable nylon rip-stop and polyester mesh. Mesh body offers excellent ventilation. Trail weight refers to poles, fly and tent body. Packed weight includes poles, fly, tent body, stakes, guy lines, stuff sacks, instructions, and packaging. Fast Fly weight refers to the poles, tent fly and accessory Fast Fly footprint.

Best Lighntweight Backpacking Tent

Recently took this tent on a 30 mile backpack from Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley. It is easy to put up and well built. It's greatest advantage is it's lightweight at 2.2 pounds. Also like the clip design for attaching the fly to the tent and groundcloth. Yes it is expensive but where pounds count it comes through with flying colors. Only drawback is the internal stash hammock does not come with it and is a special order. Planning to take it on the John Muir Trail next month.

Finally, A Well Designed, Solo Tent Under 3 Pounds

I have been searching for a well-designed, solo tent under 3 pounds for many years. And to replace my REI Roadster, which I like, but it lacks headroom and width. I have been climbing and backpacking extensively for 35 years. Surprised to finally find specs I have been looking for (incl a weight well under 3 pounds), I bought the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 and set it up in my basement. Like all modern, name brand tents, it is well-manufactured. Big Agnes got most of the weight out by thinner fabric materials. My micrometer told me that the fly thickness is about 1.8 mil and the Roadster a more standard 3 mil, etc. My other measurements were very similar to the advertised specs.I used the Fly Creek solo last week in the Sierra's John Muir Wilderness for a five day trip at 11,000 ft. My search ends! It sets up easily, has free-standing stability and was sufficiently spacious inside for me (I am 6 ft tall). My major concern was the thinner materials, but I saw no compromise during the five days of use. Tent walls seem adequate, though I have no way of knowing the effect of years of use. Probably alright, but therefore good ground protection is even more critical with this ultra light tent. Sans fly, about 18 inches of nylon wall kept the considerable night breeze off me, but allowed good ventilation. Headroom is still lacking, but without fly, I sat up to comfortably read with the tent door opened. Since the door face is angled back, it is also handy for changing clothes while standing inside the tent. I do wish more flat, headspace was designed in though, and a side mesh pocket or two. The last night I added the rain fly, which was taut and guyed out easily and well. Though not usually needed for my 3-season use, I expect the door vestibule will be challengingly adequate.So I gain one third floor area and lose 1 lb 2 oz relative to my minimalist Roadster. (With my plastic ground cloth, my actual pack weight was 2 lb 8 oz.) More floor area and less weight - kudos to Big Agnes for a fine, game-changing product!

Light and tough

I purchased my BA Fly Creek II from HumbleOutdoors for about $270, it came with a free BA footprint.This tent comes in at just over 2 lbs , making the Fly Creek II an ultralight dream tent. The tent pitches fast, and hods up in fairly strong gusts on Maine coast islands(I kayak camp). I just finished my second season with this tent and it still feels and looks new.

The Lynx Pass 3 Person is a three season, free standing, backpacking tent. It features a DAC Combination lightweight pole system with press fit connectors, and lightweight hubs - featuring eco-friendly anodizing. All DAC poles made from TH72M aluminum: the latest technology in lightweight tent poles featuring improved durability. Fly is durable nylon rip-stop with a 1500mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Floor is durable polyester rip-stop with a 1500mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Tent body is lightweight polyester mesh and durable breathable polyester rip-stop. NOTE: Trail weight refers to poles, fly and tent body. Packed weight includes poles, fly, tent body, stakes, guy lines, stuff sacks, instructions, and packaging. Fast Fly weight refers to the poles, tent fly and accessory Fast Fly footprint.

This tent is for cool nights only! Was fine in N.H. in October '11. Was Hell this summer in RI, MA, MD and PA. Absolutely do not use this tent for summer or in warm climates. There are no screen panels in the door, save for a narrow strip running horizontally along the ground. The fly covers the screen roof. Tent is about 15-20 degrees hotter than outside, and more humid, too. You will never get a cross breeze in this tent. I SIMPLY COULD NOT SLEEP.Also, the fly zippers are prone to bad jams.The tent seems sturdy, is fairly light, has good room. Hard to figure out how to assemble on the first try, so practice at home. But once you remember, it is quick to set.The footprint is flimsy. Was preferated with hundreds of holes in one night at a place in MD that used chipped stones for the campsite grounds. Bad ground surface, but other footprints would have survived.Will never buy another Big Agnes tent, just because I think it is insane for a tent to not have a screen door/proper ventilation.

Copper Spur UL tents truly redefine lightweight with their interior space to weight ratio. New fabric is lighter than anything Big Agnes has used before, but a high thread count and double twisted thread offers strength and durability. Copper Spur tents feature DAC Featherlite NSL poles with eco-friendly anodizing. DAC poles are superlight and strong with press fit connectors and lightweight hubs. All DAC poles made from TH72M aluminum: the latest technology in lightweight tent poles featuring improved durability. New HClip attaches tent body to cross pole. Fly is ultralight silicone treated nylon rip-stop with a waterproof polyurethane coating. Floor is lightweight silicone treated nylon rip-stop with a waterproof polyurethane coating. Tent body is ultra lightweight nylon and polyester mesh. Mesh body offers excellent ventilation. Single hub/pole design makes set up quick and easy. New DAC Twist Clips attach tent body to the pole frame for quick and easy set-up. Two vestibules with D-shaped doors and storm flap over zipper. Includes interior mesh pockets and reflective guyline and reflective webbing on tent corners for nighttime visibility. All seams are taped. Superlight x-peg stakes included. Great lightweight tent

We picked this tent up the day before leaving on an 8-day hiking trip in the Grand Canyon. The tent is about 4-1/2lbs including rainfly and poles... much lighter than our 'reserve' tent which weighed about 8lbs. The tent was easy to set up and of the 7 nights, 4 of them we left the fly off utilizing only the screen top. The large vestibules of the fly are nice for boots and other gear with excellent air circulation. It did not rain on us so I can't speak to the water impermeability, but we did get some very strong winds. Because of the full screen top and air gaps under the fly, the wind was able to blow a bit of dust into the tent. We used the fly in the strong wind as the tent is more 'aerodynamic' with the fly and more tie points are provided on the fly. The only criticism I could possibly come up with is the lightweight floor, but this is expected given the overall light weight of the tent. The manufacturer recommends using the footprint to help protect the floor, but that is 1lb we did not want to carry for 8 days - the floor held up fine given some care (clearing as many rocks as possible from the tent area). Overall we are very pleased with the tent and look forward to future camping trips.

I purchased my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 from HumbleOutdoors for about $450, it came with a free Big Agnes footprint.At 3lb 14oz this three person tent is incredible. It's solid, had decent room for two(three would be cozy), great in the wind and rain. We bought the updated 2012 model and used it for a kayak camping trip in Florida. Not so sure about the Copper Spur UL3

I purchased this tent to use on a cross state bicycle trip that I was helping to lead for a group of teenagers. It replaced a 20+ year old Sierra Designs clip 3 tent that I have used on many occasions. Unfortunately the Copper Spur partially collapsed on me during a violent thunderstorm and soaked all of the contents of the tent. It is true that there were high winds, but I never had my old tent collapse under similar weather conditions. I am not a rookie capmper and I think that I set the tent up properly. Now I will always be a bit concerned about using this tent in windy conditions which is a shame.
